The University of Otago is located in the South Island of New Zealand. It is New Zealand’s first university, founded in 1869, and is ranked number one by the New Zealand Government for the quality of its research. With 20,000 students, Otago is a research-led university with a distinctive student culture.

Ngarua works closely with the University, particularly its Sun Microsystems Centre of Excellence in OpenSPARC. Otago was the first university outside the United States to gain this status. We also work with Departments of Information Science and Computer Science, particularly the Systems Research Group.

Dr Mariusz Nowostawski, Ngarua's CEO, is a member of the Information Science Faculty. Our interns and support staff are all either graduates or students of the University.
